The Fort McKavett Volunteer Fire Department does not receive any funds from the county or the state. We hold a fundraiser once a year to obtain the money for truck repairs, fuel, equipment and capital improvements. Please join us on June 9th for our 18th annual BBQ cook-off and fundraiser.
Music this year will be provided by the Concho Grass Band. Our noon BBQ will feature brisket, goat, chicken, sausage, beans, potato salad, and all the fixings. The food is outstanding and you won't go home hungry. Please remember to help provide for our department's budget when you make your donation for the noon meal.
Auction Time, Auction Time... We will have both a silent auction and a live auction. Some of the items that will be available for bid are a 500 gallon elevated fuel tank valued at $1000, a Ruger - American 6.5 Creedmoor Predator rifle, a Panther Arms A-15 rifle , a T.V. a tub spa set, a table top cooker, jewelry, household items, a Crescent 148 piece tool set, baked goods, and a whirlygig. Many items are still being donated. We have fixed our public address system and there will be no repeat of the sound system troubles we experienced last year.
This year's raffle has been expanded! We will have five possible prizes for you to win instead of the three from past years. Top prize is a $1,000 in Visa gift cards. Followed by a Henry Golden Boy 22 rifle. Next is a Ruger bolt action 204 caliber rifle. Fourth prize is a $250 HEB gift card. Fifth prize is a $100 Lowes Grocery gift card. Raffle tickets are still $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Raffle tickets are going fast, so see one of the fire department members to get your chance at one of the great prizes.
The Chili and BBQ cook-off will start off with a complimentary pancake breakfast for the cook teams. There are 6 RV hookups with 30 amp electric and water. There are an additional 6 RV spots with 30 amp electric and a shared water bib. All RV spots are first come first served. Bring your own long water hose. The Fort McKavett Fire Department has added $1,200 additional prize money this year. The Chili cook-off is governed by C.A.S.I. rules. C.A.S.I. will be awarding the chili prizes. The BBQ cook-off is governed by the Lone Star BBQ Society rules. Enter your best chili, brisket, ribs, chicken, and bean creations for a chance to win. In addition to prizes for each of the meats there will be a Reserve Grand Champion and a Grand Champion awarded.
Our fire chief Terry Mazac has recruited a great group of fire fighters. We are currently being considered for an updated 2 1/2 ton truck from the Texas Forestry Service. Once we get our new truck, we will need to get lights, siren, paint, and equipment. Our fund raiser will help pay for all that.
The Fort McKavett Volunteer Fire Department wishes to thank all who support us,
either through membership in the fire department, financial contributions, grants or merchandise to auction off during our June fund raiser.
We would also like to thank those who donate anonymously.
