Our 20th Anniversary BBQ-Cook-off and Fund Raiser that was scheduled for June
13, 2020 has been postponed until it is safe for our guests, volunteers and members.
We rely on our fund raiser to generate next year's operating funds to keep our trucks functioning, fueled and
ready to serve you. The decision to postpone was not made lightly.
Our guiding members are fearful that by holding our event before the pandemic
has run its course we may inadvertently help spread this virus. We look forward to resuming our
cook-offs when we will host a great 20th Anniversary Cook-off and Fund Raiser.
2019 BBQ Cook Off and Fund Raiser
The 19th Annual BBQ Cook-Off and Fund Raiser was held on the second Saturday of June, 2019. This event is where we raise enough money to fund our operations budget for the coming year. On very good years we use the excess funds to expand our fire fighting/rescue capabilities. The June Cook-off is great fun for the cookers and the public who comes out to support us. This year we had 14 all meats cook teams, 15 Jackpot bean teams, and 6 chili teams. We started the day off at 8:00 am with a free pancake breakfast for the cook teams. This was followed by a meeting for the cookers with the meat judge. Around noon, we served a great BBQ brisket lunch that included chicken, sausage, and goat. The meal was rounded out with beans, potato salad, cookies, and iced tea. Following the meal, we auctioned off some great items including a black buck hunt, heavy machinery work, tools, hand made quilts, plus many, many more items. During the grand auction we announced the winners of our raffle. The winners of our cook-off were announced after the grand auction. We thank everyone who came out and had fun and supported their fire department.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2019 Fort McKavett BBQ
Cook-Off a Lone Star Barbeque Association event
All entry fees plus an additional $1,200 were awarded back to the first three winners in each meat category and to the reserve and grand champions. All entry fees in the beans category were awarded back to the first three bean winners. Beginning in 2019, the fire department raised the entrance fees from $70 to $100 for one or all of the meat categories. We did this to increase the payout for the winning cooking teams.
